About the Artist

amayaPablo Picasso once said “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child”. Through artwork that expresses both her sense of humor and her curiosity about the world, Amaya has learned to paint like a child in much less time than Picasso.

An artist from the age of 1, Amaya has been pursuing her craft for most of her life. Her earlier work followed in the tradition of the great abstract expressionists, but felt that it was time to move on after one of her pieces was confused with the work of Cy Twombly.

In her new series of more representational work, Amaya draws inspiration from the world around her.  She finds beauty in equal measure from spending quality time with her family as she does in reading books about sea life and the latest episode of My Little Pony.

An internationally known artist, she has had works exhibited at her grandparent’s house in the US, and at her parent’s house here in Shanghai.  Her local exhibitions include a permanent installation in her parent’s living room, and a rotating exhibit on their refrigerator. Amaya is in pre-kindergarten, likes gummy bears and pretending that she is a cat.

“She is a very talented artist!”

About the Artist’s Dad

Amaya’s father, David, is the assistant to the artist.  He fills in all the colors.  He also likes gummy bears and will begrudgingly pretend that he is a cat.

“He stays in the lines very well.”
